Interview: The-o

Can you talk about the inspiration and creative process behind your latest album?

I have years of built-up emotions that I need to release. Music helps me do that. I’m not sure. While listening to samples of sounds, which one will trigger something inside of me, but when it does, I have a song regarding some suppressed memory I had/have.

How do you think your music reflects and comments on the current social and political climate?

I’m not sure. My music is just my opinion and perception on the subject matter of life, for example, the dating climate, which is impressively depressing at the moment. I give a black male perspective on a myriad of social situations and interactions with so-called “authority figures”.

Can you speak to the evolution of your sound and style over the course of your career?

Yes, I was extremely into the Wu-Tang Klan. I mostly listen to east coast hip-hop even though I am from Nashville, TN. I love the music structure of Northern hip-hop, it can be hauntingly melodic at times, extremely lyrical and creatively well put together. That is what keeps my attention and inspires me to pursue and create music.

Can you discuss any upcoming projects or plans for the future?

I have a collaboration in the works with a Knoxville rapper called BlokStar. I am currently producing his EP and we Will be releasing an album together shortly. Then, I’ll hit you with my third album.
